UNO Federation Community Services, Inc. is a non-profit 501(C)3 corporation located in Clearwater, Florida and established in 1998. UNO is committed to assisting low and medium income families, minorities and under served citizens enter into mainstream America by providing leadership and services, and has done so for over 15 years.
UNO provides critical hands-on services such as ReStart, a note purchasing program that buys troubled mortgages on properties facing foreclosure, budget counseling aimed at stabilizing neighborhoods by keeping financially troubled homeowners in their homes, immigration legal assistance to establish residency and citizenship, tax services, social services, outreach directly or as partner with other service agencies.
UNO intends to empower citizens and residents to be self reliant, promote good citizenship and be a positive resource in the community. In order to achieve this, our key strategies focus on four main areas: Housing, Immigration, Social Investment and Social Services. As UNO provides many different services in each of these areas, we encourage you to follow the following links to learn how we can be of assistance to you, or your organization.
An overview of the Services we provide can be found below:
Housing Services of Central Florida
As a Division of UNO, Housing Services of Central Florida (HSCF) is a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency, whose mission is to: “strengthen communities and enhance the quality of life for residents by expanding housing opportunities that promote, support, and sustain home ownership and neighborhood revitalization."
HSCF provides a note purchasing service of troubled mortgages on properties facing foreclosure, in an attempt to keep families in their homes and stabilize neighborhoods. Invest in environmentally friendly, green energy projects.
UNO has provided complex legal counseling since 2004 to as many as 450 immigrants a year to achieve legal residency and citizenship, through two offices, one in Tampa and the other in Clearwater. UNO seeks funding to help legal residents take the next step towards citizenship, as government application immigration fees can be a barrier. UNO is one of the few agencies in the Tampa Bay area certified by the Department of Justice, Board of Immigration Appeals to conduct this type of work.
Other Social Services:
Outreach: UNO assists at risk families through a food bank in Clearwater, and partners with Living Insurance 4 Everyone, St. Petersburg Fl providing food and services aimed at protecting children by assisting families find work and enter productive activities.
Advocacy: In 2001, UNO performed a Pinellas County Juvenile Welfare Board Needs Assessment Study for the Hispanic Community. Additionally, a 2002 Pinellas County Office of Human Rights study on Discrimination in Housing confirms a high degree of racial and ethnic discrimination is practiced against minorities in housing and presents a barrier to integration into living in Pinellas County. We do not have any information that conditions have changed since 2002. UNO is committed to challenging persons and/or organizations that practice or are passive on issues of race, religion or gender, and advocates for Comprehensive Immigration Reform(CIR).
